Royal Society of St.George

I have many other intrests as well as politics and am proud to have been a founder of the Royal Society of St.George (Notts.) There are a number of activities being held throughout Nottinghamshire and you can contact me for further details. We will not be holding our St. Georges Day Concert at the Albert Hall this year as it falls at Easter but we will be joining with the Army Cadets in their event and for those of you who like a good Male Voice Concert, Carlton Male Voice Choir's Festival Concert is fast approaching. If you need to speak my number is 07734 144620.

Labour Threaten Summer Bin Collection!

The recent Labour Manifesto for the Gedling Borough Local Election has failed to state their plans to remove the weekly bin collection during the summer period. They proposed this amendment during the Budget meeting at Gedling Borough Council, but after the overwhelming criticism, I am not surprised that they have failed to be more open about this proposal.

It is disappointing to hear that they are planning to reverse a decision, which the Council made after consulting the public. The general feeling being the fact that residents did not want the waste building up over the period of a fortnight, with the resulting smell and health risks. We intend to continue to promote a healthy and clean environment for the Gedling Borough.

I agree, that as a council we need to be expanding our recycling operation and leading the way on sustainability, but not at the expense of public health!

I want to make it clear that I stand by the weekly collection during the summer months, and I have no plans to remove the current scheme. Instead we, as a council, should be looking at how we can recycle a greater number of household goods and informing everyone of how and what they can recycle to benefit the borough and the environment.
